Sweet meat balls
This is a classic recipe that my mother makes every Christmas. It makes a great side dish! Or a perfect addition to a buffet style dinner.
Ingredients:
- Meatballs:
- 2 lbs ground beef.
- 2 eggs.
- 1 cup milk.
- 2 cups bread crumbs.
- Salt, pepper.
- Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup ketchup.
- ¾ cups onions, chopped.
- 1 cup boiling water.
- 1 cube OXO beef broth.
- ½ cup molasses.
- ¼ cup brown sugar.
- 2/3 cup vinegar.
- 2 tablespoons dry mustard.
- Salt, pepper.
- Cayenne pepper.
Instructions:
- Meatballs:
- Mix all ingrédients except garlic.
- Shape into meat balls (makes about 70 meat balls).
- Cook in frying pan with garlic.
- Set aside.
- Sauce:
- Mix all remaining ingrédients in large pot.
- Simmer for 20 minutes.
- Add meat balls.
- Simmer on low for 1 hour.
